Ministry Minute – October 5, 2025

From This Sunday’s 8 a.m. Ministry Minute

My parents were very big on us all to give back to our community and help wherever and whomever we could. That lit a spark in me, to continue, for all my life. Being on the Outreach committee and being one of the representatives for St. Thomas on the food pantry board is so very dear to me. Knowing I may ease someone’s burden, by providing a meal, or donate personal items and snacks to a child in need, sends a message that someone cares. I am so proud of our church and our community for all the giving throughout the year.

We can all make a difference by helping others and showing kindness.  I am reminded of this quote from the Rev. Billy Graham, “God has given us two hands; one to receive with and the other to give with.”

From This Sunday’s 10 a.m. Ministry Minute

This past August, I organized a Holy Hikes series where parishioners were invited to walk together at Fernald’s Neck—praying, reflecting, and sharing fellowship in the beauty of nature.

When I was asked what inspired me to create these hikes, my first thought was simple: nature is where I feel the presence of God most fully. The light filtering through the trees brings warmth and renewal. The animals foraging reminds us God will provide. The living, fallen, and decomposing trees speak to the gift of life in all its stages—what has been, what is, and what is still unknown.

Even here in our sanctuary, I see that same inspiration: the beams of wood hewn from felled trees, the vibrant colors of stained glass mined from the earth’s minerals. Everywhere nature points us back to God.
