Ministry Minute – October 12, 2025

From This Sunday’s 8 a.m. Ministry Minute

Our oldest son, Matt, lives in Geneva, Switzerland… A few weeks ago, he flew to Dulles Airport to attend his aunt’s Celebration of Life. We met him and…

After a long car ride, we decided to go to Target. Once everyone picked out their snacks, drinks, etc., I found a register with the shortest line.  Much to my frustration, the young woman in front of us was having trouble paying for her purchases using her phone…Matt offered to purchase the items.  After much discussion, (Matt wasn’t taking no for an answer) he purchased the items for this young mother in need.

Our son, even with being up for almost 24 hours, had the presence of mind to understand and give compassion to a family in need.  I told Matt that I was very proud of him, and he said “Mom, she has two little children. No child should go without diapers because their parents are unable to pay for them.”  …It is always amazing to me where God shows His presence and love.  I was naked and you gave me clothing; I was hungry and you gave me food.

From This Sunday’s 10 a.m. Ministry Minute

When I moved into my apartment, I was greeted that day by my new neighbors, Janet and Pat.  We have developed a friendship over the years.

When the parish picnic was approaching, I felt comfortable asking Janet to join us.  She came to the picnic with me and remarked how she enjoyed the people St. Thomas and the warmth they shared when she met them.

In community, we are all parts of a puzzle.  We each have gifts to give and to share and ways we can reach out to each other.  I am called to serve where I am and in anyway I can.  God speaks to me and I’ve learned to listen…well most of the time.  How we live and love speaks the Gospel to all around us…The key is to “listen” to God and always nurture a thankful heart!
