Noon Music in Lent is St. Thomas’ Lenten program of free half-hour concerts in the church, followed by a free homemade soup, bread and fruit lunch. The series’ musicians donate their time and talent and each week a different community organization receives the free-will offering. Each program opens with a short noonday prayer.
Jane Schroeder, Minister of Music at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, started the series in 2007 as a way of providing Sabbath time, a pause, a time for reflection at Noon on the six Fridays in Lent. Members of the parish organize soup makers, bread bakers, fruit providers, servers and cleaners for the lunch and fellowship following each program. It takes many folks from St. Thomas’ parish as well as the wider community to create the music and make the lunch!
